Mentorship Program

Every year, the Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey (the "HBA-NJ") conducts its Mentorship Program to match Latino law students with Latino legal professionals from top New Jersey law firms, legal departments, government agencies and public interest organizations. Our goal is to foster relationships with law students and offer guidance and advice as they adjust to the demands of law school, navigate the recruitment process, and evaluate potential career options and strategies. We do this in part by hosting resume/clerkship workshops, panels on professionalism, and creating opportunities for mentors and mentees to meet and develop a meaningful professional bond.

The HBA-NJ will be hosting its Mentorship Program Kickoff Event on November 14, 2017, at Rutgers Law School, Baker Trial Courtroom, 123 Washington Street, Newark, New Jersey. The event will start at 6:30 p.m. and will include a panel discussion on How to Land the Job Interview, Navigating the Job Search, the Art of a Legal Resume & More! The panel will be followed by food, drinks, and networking. This event is free. To register for the Mentorship Program Kickoff Event, please click here.

We encourage all law student mentees and attorney mentors to attend this kickoff event in order to meet one another and further encourage all law students to submit their resumes to the HBA-NJ for individualized feedback. All resumes should be emailed to Julia Lopez at jalopez@reedsmith.com, no later than November 6, 2017. For more information regarding this kickoff event, please see the below flyer.

Finally, there is still time to sign up to become a mentee or mentor! We encourage all law students to take advantage of this invaluable opportunity by completing the Law Student Mentee Form:

As we cannot make this a successful program without the assistance and time commitment of our attorney members, we also encourage attorneys interested in mentoring law students to complete the Attorney Mentor Form:

The deadline to submit an application to become a mentee or mentor has been extended to November 6, 2017. Please sign up today! The forms should take you no more than 2 minutes to complete. Thank you for your time and commitment.

Kind regards,

Julia A. Lopez, Esq., President Elect 2017-2018
