Mentorship Program

Every year, the Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey ("HBA-NJ") conducts its Mentorship Program to match Latino law students with Latino legal professionals from top New Jersey law firms, legal departments, government agencies and public interest organizations.  Our goal is to foster relationships with law students and offer guidance and advice as they adjust to the demands of law school, navigate the recruitment process, and evaluate potential career options and strategies.  We do this in part by hosting various panel discussions and workshops on navigating the legal profession, career alternatives, networking, resume writing, interviewing tips and skills, and creating opportunities for mentors and mentees to meet and develop a meaningful professional bond.

This year, the HBA-NJ will be hosting its Northern Mentorship Program Kickoff Event on November 12, 2018, at Seton Hall Law School, 1109 Raymond Blvd., Room 373, Newark, New Jersey.  The event will start at 6:30 p.m. and will include a panel discussion on Navigating the Legal Profession & Networking Best Practices.  The panel will conclude with a Mock Networking Session and Reception.  Light food and refreshments will be provided.  This event is free.  To register for the Northern Mentorship Program Kickoff Event, please click here.   A special thank you to Seton Hall’s Latin American Law Students Association for hosting this event and to Rutgers Law School – Newark’s Association of Latin American Law Students.

Additionally, the HBA-NJ’s Southern Mentorship Program Kickoff Event will be held on November 29, 2018, at Rutgers Law School – Camden, 217 North Fifth Street, Faculty Lounge Room E403, Camden, New Jersey.  This event will start at 6:00 pm and will include a panel discussion on resume writing, skills, tips and best practices. Students attending this event are encouraged to submit their resumes for review and comment by no later than this Friday, November 2, 2018.  A light dinner and networking reception will follow the panel.  This event is free.  To register for the Southern Mentorship Program Kickoff Event, pleaseclick hereA special thank you to our co-sponsors of this event: (i) ALIANZA; (ii) Hispanic Bar Association of Pennsylvania; and, (iii) Rutgers Law School Minority Student Program.

As we cannot make this a successful program without the assistance and time commitment of our attorney members, we also encourage attorneys interested in mentoring law students to complete the Attorney Mentor Form:

The deadline to submit an application to become a mentee or mentor is Friday, November 9, 2018.  Please sign up today!  The forms should take you no more than 2 minutes to complete.  Thank you for your time and commitment.
