Mentorship Programs

Law Student Mentorship Program

Every year, the HBA-NJ conducts its Law Student Mentorship Program to match Latinx law students with Latinx legal professionals from New Jersey law firms, legal departments, government agencies, and public interest organizations. Our goal is to foster relationships with law students and offer guidance and advice as they adjust to the demands of law school, navigate the recruitment process, and evaluate potential career options and strategies. We do this in part by hosting various panel discussions and workshops on navigating the legal profession, career alternatives, networking, resume writing, interview tips and skills, and creating opportunities for mentors and mentees to meet and develop a meaningful professional bond.

We encourage all HBA-NJ law student members to take advantage of this invaluable opportunity by signing up as a mentee. Law students may join the HBA-NJ for free. The Law Student Mentee Form (available here) may be submitted between August 1st and November 1st of each year.

Attorney members interested in mentoring law students may submit the Attorney Mentor Form (available here) between August 1st and November 1st of each year.

High School Mentorship - American Dream Pipeline Program

Established in 2013, the American Dream Pipeline Program is a mentorship program geared towards high school students from urban communities, who often come from families that immigrated to the United States and are most likely first generation college-bound students. The focus of the program is to expose students to the legal profession and provide guidance from attorney mentors sharing similar backgrounds and life experiences. During the program's montly sessions, students hear from guest speakers on various legal topics and participate in one-on-one sessions with assigned mentors to review their college applications and essays, as well as corresponding assignments, such as debate preparation. Currently, we have the American Dream Pipeline Program in Passaic and Hudson Counties

Attorney members interested in mentoring high school students may submit the American Dream Pipeline Mentor Form between August 1st and January 1st of each year.
