Rutgers Law School - Director, NJ Innocence Project (Camden/Newark, NJ)

Job Description:

Reporting to the Associate Dean for Pro Bono and Public Interest, the Director will serve as the NJ Innocence Project chief executive and also will carry a caseload of legal matters.

Practice Description:

As the leader of a new innocence organization, the Director also will develop protocols for case screening, investigation, and client representation; work collaboratively with the Law School’s in-house clinical program and other pro bono partners; work with the project Advisory Board; and seek sources of external and University funding. This position may be based on the Camden or Newark campus and will require statewide travel.

Qualifications:

- Must have an earned Juris Doctor degree and be a member of the bar in good standing of any state.

- A minimum of three years of experience practicing criminal defense at the trial or appellate level or handling innocence cases.

- Absolute integrity.

- Passion for access to justice and due process for all.

- Development and fundraising experience.

- Member of the New Jersey Bar.

- Experience serving in a leadership role in a mission-driven setting.

- Experience with budget oversight.

- Ability to develop strong relationships across a diverse spectrum of stakeholders, and to work well with leaders in the private, government, and not-for-profit sectors.

- Organizational acumen.

- Ability to work well with partners and partner organizations.

- Excellent public speaking and communication skills.
