Flights

Registrants are responsible for booking their own flights to and from Puerto Rico. Direct flights to San Juan are available from all New Jersey airports, including Newark and JFK airports; and direct flights are available on Sunday, April 27, 2027 from San Juan (SJU) as well. 

If you have the option to use points from one of your travel credit cards, we recommend you do so. Many participants have found great deals booking using travel credits and/or points.

Travel Information

Travel From New Jersey to Puerto Rico

Overview: This section provides important travel details for those journeying from New Jersey to Puerto Rico. Whether you're traveling for business or leisure, we want to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.

1. Flights from New Jersey to San Juan:

• Flight Duration:
• • Approximately 3.5 to 4 hours non-stop.
• Travel Tip:
  Arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before your flight to ensure ample time for check-in and security procedures.

2. Ground Transportation Upon Arrival in San Juan at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU):

• Options for Ground Transportation:
• • Taxis: Available 24/7 at the airport. Estimated fare to popular destinations like Old San Juan is around $20–$25.
  • Rideshare: Lyft and Uber operate in San Juan. Pick-up locations are available at the designated rideshare zones.
  • Car Rentals: Multiple rental agencies are located at the airport. Booking in advance is recommended.
  • Public Transportation: The AMA bus system offers an affordable option but be sure to check schedules in advance.

3. Time Zone:

• Puerto Rico Time Zone: Atlantic Standard Time (AST), which is 1 hour ahead of Eastern Standard Time (EST). N.B. Daylight Savings Time: Puerto Rico does not observe Daylight Saving Time, so there may be a 1-hour difference depending on the time of year.

4.  COVID-19 and Health Information:

• Travel Requirements: As of the latest guidelines, no special COVID-19 entry requirements (such as testing or quarantine) exist for travelers from the U.S. to Puerto Rico. However, always check with airlines and local health authorities for any last-minute updates.
• Health Insurance: It's advisable to have travel health insurance or ensure your existing health plan covers travel in Puerto Rico.

5. Weather in San Juan:

• Average Temperatures: Typically ranges from 75°F (24°C) to 85°F (29°C). It’s a warm, tropical climate, with pleasant, sunny weather. Humidity is moderate, and while there may be occasional showers, they are usually brief. It’s a great time to visit, as the weather is generally comfortable for outdoor activities.
• Packing Tips: Bring light, breathable clothing for the tropical climate, and don't forget sunscreen, comfortable shoes for exploring, and a rain jacket if traveling during the wetter months.
